No. 2 UCLA Handles Rutgers, 86-46
February 04, 2026 | Women's Basketball
LOS ANGELES – No. 2-ranked UCLA (22-1, 12-0 B1G) nearly doubled Rutgers (9-14, 1-11 B1G) in a blowout win at home, 86-46, Wednesday night. Five Bruins finished in double-digits.
Senior Kiki Rice topped scoring for the Bruins with 17 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Senior Gabriela Jaquez finished closely behind her, recording 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists of her own. Senior Lauren Betts shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field to give her 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists in under 14 minutes on the floor. Freshman Sienna Betts also finished with 11 points, adding four rebounds and an assist to her total. Graduate student Charlisse Leger-Walker led the team in assists and steals for the night, adding 11 points, seven assists, five steals, and four rebounds to the scoreboard.
After an early 3-pointer to put Rutgers up 3-0, UCLA answered with a 12-0 run before forcing the Scarlet Knights to call a timeout. Lauren Betts scored the first points for the Bruins, answering Rutgers' 3-pointer with a layup over two defenders. Kneepkens drove across the court a minute later to find Rice, who finished the layup in the paint off the jump stop. Rice later finished a highlight-reel moment, using a stutter step to beat her first defender before completing the double-clutch layup. She continued her dominant first quarter on the next possession, hitting an outside 3-pointer to force a Rutgers timeout.
Out of the timeout and a defensive stop by the Bruins, freshman Lena Bilić knocked down a 3-pointer off a no-look pass from Leger-Walker. Leger-Walker then grabbed her first of three first-quarter steals and found Jaquez, who euro-stepped around two defenders for an impressive basket in the paint. Immediately after, Leger-Walker recorded another steal, this time resulting in an Angela Dugalić finish. When Rutgers hit a 3-pointer to snap their 6:51 scoring drought – the Scarlet Knights went 1-13 of their previous shots – Jaquez hit a 3-pointer to increase the lead. Redshirt-sophomore Amanda Muse showed her defensive prowess, performing great one-on-one defense to force the travel, leading to Jaquez scoring another basket on the offensive side of the ball.
UCLA finished the quarter up 26-6.
Jaquez led all scorers through one with 10 points while Rice finished the quarter with seven, both scoring more points than Rutgers' quarter total. Leger-Walker grabbed three first-quarter steals as the Bruins shot 63 percent from the field while recording only one turnover.
UCLA forced three turnovers on the first three possessions to start, with Jaquez euro-stepping in the paint to add two more points for the Bruins. After a short scoring drought, Rice grabbed the defensive rebound and took it down the court herself for the finish. Betts added to it on the next possession, hitting a basket to put UCLA up 35-18.
Continuing a strong defensive performance, Kneepkens forced a Scarlet Knight to step out of bounds, giving Rutgers their ninth turnover of the game. With less than a minute left in the half, Leger-Walker took over; starting with a made fadeaway shot, she snagged a steal to earn her fourth of the match. Not finished yet, Leger-Walker grabbed the inbound pass with seven seconds left and drove down court, maneuvering around defenders to finish the basket and earn a shooting foul on her made layup with less than a second left. She completed the three-point play to put UCLA up 40-19 going into the half.
Jaquez finished the first half with 12 points and three rebounds, with Rice adding nine points, a rebound, and an assist. UCLA finished shooting 55 percent from the field while recording eight steals.
Lauren Betts made the first basket for the Bruins to start the second half, drawing the foul and finishing the three-point play. She followed that with another completion, grabbing the offensive rebound to put up another shot. UCLA scored on the next four possessions, with Leger-Walker adding five of the points UCLA earned on a 15-3 run. On the first possession out of the timeout the Bruins forced, Rice drove down the baseline to finish the reverse layup under the hoop. Two minutes later, Jaquez picked up her first steal of the game, which led to her drawing a shooting foul and completing both free throws. With a minute left, Dugalić jumped to make an acrobatic pass, finding a wide-open Gianna Kneepkens for an easy three. After Kneepkens hit a pull-up jumper with 24 seconds left, Dugalić stole the ball from Rutgers as time expired to close out the third.
UCLA held a 68-27 lead entering the fourth.
Rice and Betts both scored seven points in the third, with Kneepkens and Leger-Walker following closely behind with five.
Sienna Betts stepped into action for the Bruins to start the fourth with back-to-back baskets, notably spinning around her defender to finish her second basket. Minutes later, Dugalić followed her lead, hitting back-to-back baskets of her own to increase the score. Bilić hit her second three of the night to put UCLA up 43 points, followed by a Sienna Betts layup over a defender. Responding to a Rutgers basket, Sienna Betts scored her eighth point of the quarter with a left-handed finish around a defender with 38 seconds left in the game.
