No. 1 UCLA Sweeps No. 3 Hawai'i, 3-0

HONOLULU, Hi. โ The UCLA men's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep of No. 3 Hawai'i in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,325 in the final game of the OUTRIGGER Invitational hosted by Hawai'i. Set scores were 25-18, 25-20, and 30-28.
With the win the Bruins improve to 18-0 on the season.
Offensively the Bruins hit .395 on the night. Sean Kelly led all players with 15 kills, while Zach Rama added 11 kills on the night. Kelly hit .609 on the night. Senior Setter Andrew Rowan tallied 36 assists.
As for the teams' defense, Cameron Thorne had six blocks, while three Bruins recorded five digs. The Bruins limited Hawai'i to a season-low .207 hitting percentage.
Saturday nights marquee matchup pitted No. 1 UCLA and No. 3 Hawai'i, the nation's top two offenses against each other. It also marked the first time Hawai'i was swept at home since the 2023 season.
In the opening set the Bruins raced out to a 6-3 advantage to quiet the crowd. A kill from Kelly started the 3-0 run before two Rainbow Warriors attack errors put the Bruins up three.
A team block by Thorne and Rama made it 13-8, before a Micah Wong Diallo kill pushed UCLA in front by five, 20-15.
A kill from Thorne made it 24-17 UCLA, and an attack error from Hawai'i gave the Bruins the set, 25-18, and a 1-0 sets lead. Kelly led the team with six kills in the opening set.
In the second set, Hawai'i took a 5-1 lead before the Bruins stormed back. A kill from Decker tied the set at 6-6 as the Bruins rattled off five of the next six points.
A kill from Rama and a kill from Kelly made it 14-13 in favor. With Trent Taliaferro at the service line the Bruins recorded two points in a row to make it 23-18 in favor of the Bruins. A Kill from Rama and an ace from Rowan ended the set and gave the Bruins a 2-0 lead heading to the third set. ย ย
As for the third set, the Bruins fell behind 7-5 before tying the set at 8-8 after a kill from Decker. After falling behind 15-12, Rama tallied another kill to make it 15-13. Two Rainbow Warrior attack errors tied the set at 18-18, as the teams traded points.
A kill from Tread Rosenthal made it 24-23 in favor of Hawai'i before the Bruins fended off two set points before a kill from Kelly made it 27-27. At 28-28, Rama hammered home a kill to make it 29-28, before Thorne added another kill to give the Bruins the set, 30-28, and the match 3-0.
