No. 1 UCLA Downs No. 8 BYU in Four Sets

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's volleyball program earned a 3-1 win over No. 8 BYU on Thursday evening in an MPSF Conference match inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial.
With the win the Bruins improve to 25-1 overall and 12-1 in MPSF conference play. BYU falls to 20-10 and 7-6 in MPSF play.
Three Bruins finished in double-digit kills as Sean Kelly tallied 16, Micah Wong Diallo added 11 kills and opposite David Decker had 10 kills. As a team, the Bruins finished with a .474 hitting percentage, while limiting BYU to a .250 hitting percentage. ย
Senior setter dished out 47 set assists, and Decker added a career-high six service aces on the night.
In the opening set the two sides traded points as UCLA took a 7-6 lead over BYU courtesy of a Kelly kill, and then extended the advantage to 9-6 when Decker recorded an ace.
UCLA extended its lead to 14-8 and then 16-9 when Wong Diallo and Rowan recorded aces. Three kills in four points by Decker made it a 22-11 lead in favor of the Bruins.
The Bruins closed out the set after Rowan recorded a kill and then Rowan and Wong Diallo combined for a block to give UCLA the set, 25-14.
As for the second set, BYU opened up a 9-5 advantage before Kelly recorded his 10th kill of the night to make it 9-6 in favor of the Cougars.
BYU made it 20-12 after a service ace, before closing the set with a kill from AJ Cottle to take the second set 25-17, tying the match at 1-all.
In the third set, UCLA took a 7-5 lead after a kill from Wong Diallo. A block from Rowan and Wong Diallo was followed by a Decker service ace, pushing UCLA in front 15-9.
Trent Moser of BYU closed the game to 17-13, before the Bruins went on a 3-0 run. Two kills from Kelly were followed by a kill from Rama during that stretch.
Rama then gave the Bruins the set, 25-17, with his fourth kill of the set, and UCLA took a 2-1 advantage heading in to the fourth set.
Decker went on a run from the service line throughout the fourth set. The redshirt junior opposite recorded four of his six aces in the fourth set alone.
His first made it 11-9 in favor of UCLA, and he followed that with two in quick succession. The North Carolina native tallied his second to push UCLA in front 13-9, added a kill to make it 14-9, before recording another ace to give UCLA a six-point lead, 15-9.
