Day 2 Recap
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. โ Gabriel Clement II (400m dash) and Tamaal Myers II (400m hurdles) each punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships as the Bruin men wrapped up their time at the 2026 NCAA West First Rounds at Arkansas's John McDonnell Field on Friday.
The duo joined thrower Xaver Hastenrath โ who qualified in the shot put on Wednesday โ to give the Bruin men three representatives at NCAAs in Eugene, Ore. from June 10-13.
Clement was the first Bruin to secure nationals qualification on Friday, as he earned an auto-bid after placing runner-up in his quarterfinal heat with a personal-best time of 45.22. It marks the second consecutive time that Clements has qualified for Outdoor NCAAs, as he was a First-Team All-American in 2025 after placing eighth in the 400m. His time on Friday was two-hundredths of a second faster than his previous PR, accomplished earlier this year at LSU's Battle on the Bayou.
Shortly after, Myers punched his own ticket in the 400mH after finishing seventh overall. His time of 49.67 was a personal best and moved him into a tie at No. 7 on the program's all-time top-10 list. Myers' time was the fastest of all racers who didn't earn an auto-bid, and was over a quarter-second better than his previous PB. Like Clements, Myers will be returning to Outdoor NCAAs for the second consecutive year.
Other Bruins in action who didn't qualify for NCAAs included Jake Stafford (discus), Hamdi Ali (high jump), Terrence Sweetman (triple jump), and Zaire Waring (400m hurdles). Ali came the closest to qualifying, placing 15th with a mark of 2.12m (6-11.5) to narrowly miss out on the top-12 result needed to advance.
UCLA wraps up at Regionals on Saturday with the women's quarterfinals. The Bruins have entries in the high jump (Fakrogha, Slover), 3000m steeplechase (Marheineke, Hawkins), triple jump (Kirk), 100m hurdles (Polzonetti), 100m dash (Snaer), 400m dash (N. Johnson), 400m hurdles (Coleman), 200m dash (Taylor Snaer), as well as both relays.
