Emily Zaplatosch Named UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete Of The Week

April 18, 2005
Junior catcher Emily Zaplatosch (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon HS) of the UCLA Softball Team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 11-17.
Zaplatosch hit .400 (4-for-10) against Arizona State and No. 2 Arizona last week, leading the Bruins to a weekend sweep (4-0 vs. ASU, 9-1 and 5-4 vs. Arizona). In the weekend games against the second-ranked Wildcats, she went 4-for-7 with three home runs, nine RBI and three runs scored. On Saturday, she hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning and followed with a three-run walk-off HR in her next at-bat. In her first at-bat of the game on Sunday, she connected on a three-run home run, making her the first Bruin to homer in three consecutive at-bats since NCAA career home run record-holder Stacey Nuveman did so in April of 2002.
Entering this week's schedule, Arizona pitching had allowed just eight home runs over 239.2 innings this season. In 11.1 innings against the Wildcats, Zaplatosch hit three home runs, two off ace Alicia Hollowell. Through its first 35 games of the year, Arizona had surrendered just 29 RBI on the year. Zaplatosch had nine RBI against the 'Cats in just two games this weekend and was 3-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
This is Zaplatosch's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
