No.2 UCLA to Host Cal State Northridge in MPSF Quarterfinal Match Saturday

The second-ranked UCLA men's volleyball will begin its post-season on Saturday night by hosting Cal State Northridge in an MPSF quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
Tickets are available for $5 for students and $10 for adults and will be sold only on game day. For more information call 310-UCLA-WIN.
Saturday's match will be broadcast live on www.uclabruins.com as well as on www.mpsports.org/audio/.
In other MPSF quartefinal matches scheduled for Apr. 23, sixth-seeded UC Santa Barbara travels to No.3 seed BYU and fifth-seeded Long Beach State visits No.4 seed Hawaii. The winners advance to the semifinals.
Top-seeded Pepperdine has a bye into the semifinals, which it will host on Thurs., Apr. 28.
The Bruins (25-4) will battle the Matadors (18-13), who beat Stanford 3-1 Wednesday night.
In their first-round victory on Apr. 20, the Matadors got 29 kills (.412) from senior Nils Nielson. They dominated the net by outblocking the Cardinal, 14.5-7.0 and served nine aces to Stanford's one. CS Northridge also hit .331 and limited Stanford to an attack percentage of .241.
The Bruins have defeated CS Northridge three times this season. In their most recent victory over the Matadors on Apr. 6, the Bruins were extended to four games and won Game 2, 33-31. Senior Paul Johnson and sophomore Matt McKinney combined for 37 kills as UCLA hit .329 and out-blocked the Matadors, 13.5-7.5. UCLA also served eight aces to CSUN's three.
UCLA leads the overall series against CS Northridge, 51-5. Since losing both conference matches to the Matadors in 2003, the Bruins have won six straight against their Valley rivals. The Matadors' last victory in Pauley Pavilion was on Feb. 5, 2003.
In the league playoffs, dating back to 1995, the Bruins have captured the MPSF Tournament title four times and boast a record of 17-4. Overall, the Bruins have won 24 conference championships in men's volleyball since 1964.
