2007 UCLA Soccer Alumni Day

UCLA will celebrate 40 years of soccer excellence on Sunday, Oct. 14 with the annual alumni game and recognition of UCLA's first varsity squad from 1967.
The alumni game will take place at the North Athletic Field at 10:00 am. Immediately afterwards, refreshments will be available for participants at Drake Stadium under the scoreboard. At noon, the UCLA women will kick off a soccer double-header with a game against Oregon at Drake Stadium, followed by a men's matchup between UCLA and California at 2:30 pm. Immediately after the UCLA-California game, invited guests will gather in the J.D. Morgan Center Hall of Fame for a reception.
Members of the 1967 Bruin squad will be honored at the men's game. UCLA's first varsity squad was coached by the late Dennis Storer and went undefeated in its first 13 games before finishing with a 12-1-1 overall record. Team members included Berhane Anderberhan, Soheil Antirn, Oleg Brovko, Roberto Cano, David Chu, Juan Engelsen, Jean-Pierre Kornos, Frank Marshall, Paul Mayersohn, Gordon McBeth, Tom Meyer, Tony Nemar, Bernard Okoye, Ed Olmedo, Luis Ortiz, Odir Pereira, Cairo Salviterra and Arthur Szylewicz.
Engelsen recalls the early days of UCLA Soccer, saying, "The first year felt like an adventure, but the second year felt like the beginnings of a dynasty, which UCLA soccer has really become."
