Bruins Earn No. 2 National Seed for NCAA Tournament

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA softball team earned the No. 2 national seed for the 2008 NCAA Softball Tournament, as announced on Sunday night. The Bruins will host Nevada, Purdue and Cal State Fullerton in a regional at Easton Stadium that begins on Friday. UCLA will face Cal State Fullerton in the second game on Friday, approximately 30 minutes after the first contest of the day between Nevada and Purdue, which starts at 2:30 p.m.

All games of the Los Angeles Regional will be televised live on ESPNU. Game times are as follows:

Friday
Game 1 - Nevada (2 seed) vs. Purdue (3 seed), 2:30 p.m.
Game 2 - UCLA (1 seed) vs. Cal State Fullerton (4 seed), 30 minutes after Game 1

Saturday
Game 3 - Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, 3:00 p.m.
Game 4 - Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2, 30 minutes after Game 3
Game 5 - Winner Game 4 vs. Loser Game 3, 30 minutes after Game 4

Sunday
Game 6 - Winner Game 3 vs. Winner Game 5, 2:30 p.m.
Game 7 - Winner Game 6 vs. Loser Game 6 (if necessary), 30 minutes after Game 6

All-session tickets and single-game tickets may be purchased in advance at the UCLA Central Ticket Office (310-UCLA-WIN) and will be sold at the Easton Stadium ticket booth on game day. All-session passes are $28 for adults and $16 for students and single-game passes are $10 for adults and $6 for students. Student prices apply to all grade school, high school and college students.

The Bruins concluded the regular season with a 45-7 record and a 17-4 mark in Pac-10 play. Nevada, the second seed in the regional, won the regular-season Western Athletic Conference title and earned an at-large berth, finishing with a 42-16 mark. Third-seeded Purdue, an at-large selection from the Big Ten Conference, was 34-21 overall and fifth in the Big Ten, while #4 seed Cal State Fullerton was an at-large selection from the Big West Conference after concluding the regular season with a 27-26-1 record and a fifth-place finish in the Big West.
