April 29, 2010

UCLA senior outside hitter Garrett Muagututia earned Second-Team AVCA All-America honors, the coaches association announced Thursday.

Last week, the MPSF named him to its second team all-conference squad after he led the Bruins in several offensive categories and recorded the highest passing percentage among the players nominated at his position.

Muagututia ended his UCLA career as one of the most effective offensive players in UCLA history. On the all-time UCLA charts he ranks second in career points (1,718.0), fifth in kills (1,473) and sixth in aces (99). He finished his career with 741 digs and ranks eighth in that category. He recorded 71 double-digit kill matches in four seasons.

UCLA players have earned 146 All-America awards since 1977, the first year the honors were announced. In addition, 17 UCLA players have earned 32 All-America certificates from the AVCA since 1992.
