UCLA Wins Spring Opener, 4-1, Over LA Blues

Feb. 13, 2011
The UCLA men's soccer team got off to a good start in 2011, winning its spring opener on Saturday, 4-1, over USL team LA Blues.
Junior midfielder Eder Arreola led UCLA with two goals, including the game-winner. Also scoring for the Bruins were freshman and U.S. Under-20 National Team midfielder Kelyn Rowe and freshman forward Andrew Tusaazemajja.
Two Bruin freshmen who redshirted in 2010 made their UCLA debuts - goalkeeper Earl Edwards and midfielder Bradley McIntosh.
UCLA returns all 11 starters from last season's squad that advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
UCLA soccer alumni also saw success this weekend. David Estrada (2006-09) scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute in the Seattle Sounders' 1-0 win over Chivas USA on Saturday. Also playing in that game were Jimmy Conrad (1996-97) and Sal Zizzo (2005-06) for Chivas USA. Carlos Bocanegra (1997-99) scored the lone goal for Saint-Étienne (France), and Jonathan Bornstein started for Tigres (Mexico) in a 2-0 win over Cruz Azul.
