Darxia Morris Invited To Tulsa Shock Training Camp

April 30, 2011
After three two-hour sessions with over 50 participants at this weekend's open tryouts, the Tulsa Shock of the WNBA invited UCLA senior point guard Darxia Morris to attend training camp on May 15. A total of 15 players will compete for nine spots on the final roster.
"We might be a little bit short handed at the point guard position," General Manager and Head Coach Nolan Richardson said. "She had a great camp and we are happy that we were able to identify her as the best player in the camp."
Morris led UCLA in scoring in 2011 with a 12.2 points per game average. She also averaged 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 45.6% from the field. Morris earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors, Pac-10 All-Tournament acclaim and honorable mention Pac-10 All-Defensive honors. She started all 33 games for the Bruins, leading the team to a 28-5 finish and school records in regular season wins (26) and Pac-10 Conference victories (16).
"When I got the call, I was jumping up and down in my hotel room," Morris said. "I'm so happy."
"I'm going to get in shape like coach said and be stronger on the court. Just hoping that I can make the team, just work my butt off."
UCLA has had eight WNBA players in its history, including current WNBA players Noelle Quinn (Los Angeles Sparks) and Nikki Blue (New York Liberty).
