May 23, 2011
UCLA forward Jasmine Dixon is participating this week in trials conducted by USA Basketball for the World University Games Team in Colorado Springs, CO.
Dixon, a rising senior from Long Beach, CA, was an AP honorable mention All-American and UCLA's team co-MVP in 2011, averaging 12.1 points and team-highs of 7.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game. She earned first-team All-Pac-10 honors and was selected to the Pac-10's All-Defensive first team by the conference media. Additionally, she was on the Wooden Award Midseason Top 20 and Naismith Trophy Midseason Top 30 lists.
Dixon helped lead UCLA to a 28-5 record and second-straight NCAA second round appearance this past season. The Bruins set school records for regular season victories (26), Pac-10 Conference victories (16) and road victories (12). Since she joined the active roster in December of 2009, UCLA has posted a 49-11 overall and 31-5 Pac-10 record.
The 12-member USA team and alternates will be selected after the Trials on May 25. The World University Games take place in Shenzhen, China, from Aug. 12-23 and the coaching staff includes Bill Fennelly, Iowa State; Suzie McConnell-Serio, Duquesne; Terri Williams-Flournoy, Georgetown. The last Bruin player to make the World University Games team was Lisa Willis, who helped lead the U.S. to a gold medal in 2005.
