Five Current Bruins To Play In 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

June 1, 2011
Five current members of the UCLA men's soccer team will participate in the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with their Premier Development League (PDL) team Ventura County Fusion. On the Fusion squad are goalkeeper Brian Rowe, defenders Shawn Singh and Matt Wiet, midfielder Andy Rose and forward Reed Williams.
The Fusion qualified for the U.S. Open Cup on Saturday after defeating the Southern California Seahorses, 4-0. The win gave Ventura County a 4-0-0 record in the PDL Southwest Division, tied with the Fresno Fuego, but the Fusion advanced on goal differential.
Rose is the Fusion's team captain and earned PDL Team of the Week honors last week. He and Williams are tied for third on the squad in scoring, each with three goals and one assist. Rowe has posted two shutouts in three games played. Wiet has played in five of the team's six games, and Singh has played in three.
The first round of the tournament begins on Tuesday, June 14. The Fusion will host U.S. Adult Soccer Association squad Doxa Italia at 7 pm at Ventura College.
