UCLA Alumni Still Alive In U.S. Open Cup

UCLA soccer alumni are still alive in the U.S. Open Cup. USL Pro squad Los Angeles Blues, which feature defenders Nelson Akwari and Leonard Griffin, will face Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy, who have five Bruins on the roster (Sean Alvarado, Chad Barrett, Frankie Hejduk, Brian Perk, Michael Stephens), in the third round. Maxwell Griffin's Orlando City Soccer Club (USL Pro) will play Kevin Hartman's FC Dallas MLS squad in Frisco, TX in the third round.
Also participating in third round action are MLS teams Real Salt Lake (Tony Beltran and Nick Rimando), Seattle Sounders FC (David Estrada, Patrick Ianni and head coach Sigi Schmid), and Sporting Kansas City (Chance Myers).
The Ventura County Fusion, with five current UCLA players (Andy Rose, Brian Rowe, Shawn Singh, Matt Wiet and Reed Williams), was eliminated from the Open Cup by the Los Angeles Blues, losing 1-0 in the second round on Tuesday.
All third round games will take place on Tuesday, June 28.
