Three Bruins On Roster As U.S. Begins Gold Cup Play

UCLA will be well-represented as the U.S. begins 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup Play Tuesday afternoon against Canada. Three Bruins - goalkeeper Nick Rimando (1997-99) and defenders Carlos Bocanegra (1997-99) and Jonathan Bornstein (2004-05) - are on the U.S. men's national team squad for the tournament. A fourth player, Benny Feilhaber (2003-04), was previously named to the squad but suffered an ankle injury on May 28 and was replaced on the roster.

The U.S. will open play against Canada at Ford Field in Detroit at 5 pm PT today. Other scheduled games for the U.S. are Saturday, June 11 vs. Panama at 5 pm PT in Tampa, FL and Tuesday, June 14 against Guadeloupe at 5 pm PT in Kansas City. All three games will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel and TeleFutura.

The U.S. has won the Gold Cup four times, most recently in 2007. The team has appeared in the last three Gold Cup finals. The winner of the 2011 Gold Cup will earn the right to play in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil, a year prior to the World Cup.
