Brian Rofer Named AVCA Assistant Coach of the Year

Lexington, Ky. - UCLA Assistant Coach Brian Rofer was honored with the AVCA Division I-II Men's National Assistant Coach of the Year Award today, as announced by the organization.
Rofer recently completed his 22nd season under legendary head coach Al Scates and helped lead the Bruins to a 22-8 record, a large improvement over last year's 16-15 mark. UCLA also finished 16-6 in the MPSF Conference and earned a No. 5 seed in the MPSF Tournament. In addition, the Bruins were ranked in the top-five of the AVCA Coaches poll for the duration of the season and were ranked as high as No. 1 in four different weeks.
In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Rofer is also responsible for maintaining NCAA compliance and is the director of recruiting for the team. Over his 22 years, Rofer has helped recruit 27 players who have earned NCAA All-Tournament honors, 33 players who have earned AVCA All-America honors, and 72 All-Conference players. Also in his 22 seasons, the Bruins have committed no NCAA violations. He has coached on the staffs of six UCLA men's volleyball NCAA championship teams and 10 that have reached the NCAA finals. As a player at UCLA, Rofer was a member of the 1979 NCAA Championship team that went 29-0.
"For 22 years, Brian Rofer has been a dedicated assistant coach and an outstanding recruiter," said Head Coach Al Scates. "He has worked tirelessly replenishing our roster each year, preparing expert scouting reports and playing by the rules. With his recruits, UCLA volleyball has won six NCAA titles and advanced to 10 NCAA Finals. He is an indispensable member of my staff."
