Junior tailback DeShaun Foster (Tustin, CA/Tustin HS) of the UCLA Football Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Aug. 28-Sept. 4.
Foster was named the National College Football Player of the Week by CNNSI.com and USAToday.com after a historic performance against Alabama Sept. 2. Foster led the Bruins to a 35-24 upset over the third-ranked Crimson Tide, carrying the ball for a school-record tying 42 times and setting a new career high with 187 yards rushing. Foster also tied his career-high in rushing touchdowns with three.
One-half yard shy of gaining 50% of his 1999 total in one game, Foster?s total of 187 yards was the highest since the 1997 opener when Skip Hicks rushed for 190 at Washington State and ranks 17th (tied) on UCLA's single-game list. Foster has now rushed for 100+ yards four times in his career (twice in 1998, once in 1999 and once in 2000).
