Redshirt freshman tailback Tyler Ebell (Ventura, CA/Ventura HS) of the UCLA Football Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 21-27.
Ebell was a workhorse against Stanford, rushing for 160 yards and the go-ahead touchdown on 39 carries, three shy of the school record for carries. He also made one reception for 14 yards and attempted one pass.
In the second half, he carried 25 times for 118 yards. Of UCLA's 33 offensive snaps in the final 30 minutes (excluding the two kneel-downs at the end of the game), he carried on 25 of them. In the fourth quarter, he carried on 13 of UCLA's 14 snaps, including the final 12. UCLA scored on all three fourth-quarter possessions (one touchdown and two field goals).
Ebell leads the Bruins with 463 yards on 135 attempts and is averaging 4.7 yards per carry. In addition, he is averaging 11.6 yards on 23 punt returns. He ranks sixth in the Pac-10 in rushing (79.0 yards per game), fourth in punt returns (11.6 yards per return) and 10th in the league in all-purpose yards (116.4).
Ebell is the first freshman (true or redshirt) in school history to rush for at least 100 yards in four games, all consecutive. He is also on pace to break Eric Ball's redshirt freshman rushing record of 703 yards, set in 1985, and be the first freshman since DeShaun Foster in 1998 to lead the team in rushin
