Senior catcher Stacey Nuveman (LaVerne, CA/St. Lucy's Priory HS) of the UCLA Softball Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of May 20-27.

Nuveman hit .429 at the Women's College World Series with a single, an RBI double and a home run for a 1.000 slugging percentage. Her home run against Oklahoma was the game-winning RBI in UCLA's 2-0 elimination win over the Sooners. Nuveman then breathed life into the anemic Bruin offense with a RBI double down the right field line against Arizona State, but UCLA was unable to push across the game-tying run against the Sun Devils and would be eliminated, 2-1, on Saturday night.

Nuveman's double and home run sealed one of her most impressive records, giving her a 1.045 slugging percentage for the 2002 season (26 points better than the previous single-season record) and a .945 career slugging percentage, which is 148 points better than the previous NCAA record of .797 held by Leah Braatz of Arizona (1994-98).

Nuveman finished the season with a .529 batting average, the ninth-best season in NCAA history and second-best season in Pac-10 history. Her career .466 batting average ranks third in the NCAA record books and breaks Sue Enquist's school record by 65 points.

This is Nuveman's fourth UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and her career.

Also nominated: Megan Bradley (w. tennis), Lauren Fisher (w. tennis), Wes Whisler (baseball).
