*UCLA leads the series over Washington State 42-20-1, including a 10-6 mark in games played in the Rose Bowl.
*With today’s win over Washington State, UCLA has won 16 of its last 21 games overall.
*After forcing a season-high four WSU turnovers in today’s game, UCLA has now forced at least one turnover in each of the past eight contests and in 19 of its past 21 games overall. The Bruins forced three turnovers each in games earlier this season against Coastal Carolina and San Diego State.
*UCLA held Washington State without an offensive TD in the first half of today’s game and on its first 10 possessions in the game. Utah scored one offensive TD in four quarters of action in the previous game and had no points on its last eight possessions of that contest.
*The Bruins allowed just 12 Washington State rushing yards in today’s game, the fourth time this season that UCLA has allowed under 100 yards rushing. The Bruins had earlier given up 56 to Coastal Carolina, 63 rushing yards to San Diego State and 90 to North Carolina Central. UCLA has held five teams to 100 yards or less rushing in each of the previous two seasons.
*Logan Loya’s second quarter scoring reception was his second of the season (also had 24-yard TD catch at San Diego State). Loya tied his career high for receptions in a game (five in last game at Utah) with five catches in the first half of action against WSU.
*Laiatu Latu registered his fifth sack of the 2023 season in the first half against Washington State and now has been credited with a sack in three of this season’s five contests and in 11 of his 18 games as a Bruin. He has 15.5 career sacks as a Bruin.
*Alex Johnson notched his team-leading third interception of the season in the first half against Washington State. He entered the 2023 season without an interception.
*UCLA intercepted two passes by Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward. He had entered the game with zero interception this season.
*Carson Steele recorded his first 100-yard rushing game as a Bruin. Steele, who had 90 yards at the half, finished with 140 yards for the game on 30 carries. The transfer racked up 12 100-yard games in his two seasons at Ball State. Steele’s previous rushing high while at UCLA was 84 yards against San Diego State. (Steele’s most carries in a game high is 32 vs UConn in 2022 while at Ball State).
*Longest starting streaks on defense – Darius Muasau and Gabriel Murphy – 18 each; next is Jay Toia at 13.
*Longest starting streaks on offense – Duke Clemens – 26; next is Garrett DiGiorgio at 18.
*Washington State, which gained 216 total yards in today’s game, is the fourth straight opponent that UCLA has held to less than 300 yards of total offense. The last time a UCLA defense held at least four straight opponents to less than 300 yards in a season was in 2006 (Utah-287, Rice 184, Washington 249, Stanford 166, Arizona 222).
*With today’s win over No. 13 Washington State, UCLA has recorded three home victories over top-15 ranked (AP) teams in the last two seasons ---2022: No. 15 Washington 40-32 and No. 11 Utah 42-32; 2023: No. 13 Washington State 25-17.
*UCLA has held its last five opponents to less than 20 points; the last time it held at least five straight opponents to less than 20 points was when it held six straight opponents under 20 in 2001 – Cal (35-13), Washington (38-7), Oregon State (38-7), Ohio State (13-6), Kansas (41-17), Alabama (20-17).
*UCLA has held four straight opponents under 300 yards of total offense --- WSU (216), Utah (219), NC Central (245), San Diego State (259). The last time it held as many as four straight opponents under 300 yards was in 2006, when it did so in the first five games of the season.
