UCLA is 68-32-5 all-time in season-opening games … this is the third straight season-opening win by UCLA and the third straight opener in which it has limited the opponent to less than 20 points. UCLA has won 45 straight games overall and 64 straight regular-season games in which it has held the opponent to fewer than 20 points.
 
Tonight was the first time UCLA has played a football opponent from the state of South Carolina.
 
The Bruins have won their last seven September games played over the past two-plus seasons.
 
The Bruins have won six of their last seven regular-season non-conference games.
 
Over the last 17 games, UCLA’s record is 13-4.
 
UCLA has forced as least one turnover in 15 of its past 17 games and in each of its last four games.
 
Coastal Carolina rushed for 56 yards in the game. Last season, UCLA held five opponents to less than 100 yards in rushing with the lowest being 37 by Bowling Green.
 
Carsen Ryan, who played in five games last season as a true freshman, caught his first career touchdown pass in the first quarter on a 21-yard pass from Ethan Garbers.
 
Jaylin Davies made his first interception of the season and the fourth of his Bruin career in the third quarter. Davies led UCLA last season with three thefts.
 
John Humphrey made his first career interception in the fourth quarter.
 
True freshman quarterback Dante Moore threw scoring passes on two consecutive passing attempt against Coastal Carolina – a second-quarter 14-yard strike to Carson Steele and a fourth-quarter 62-yard toss to J.Michael Sturdivant. The UCLA school record for most TD passes in a game by a true freshman is three shared by Josh Rosen (2015 against Cal and Virginia) and Cade McNown (1995 against Kansas).
 
J.Michael Sturdivant recorded his second collegiate career 100-yard receiving game with five catches for 136 yards against Coastal Carolina. Last season, while at Cal, he had 104 receiving yards on six catches against Washington.
 
Longest starting streak on offense -- C Duke Clemens started his 22nd straight game against Coastal Carolina.
 
Longest starting streak on defense LB Darius Muasau and OLB Gabriel Murphy each started their 14th straight game against Coastal Carolina.
 
R.J. Lopez connected on his first career field goal (31 yards) attempt in the fourth quarter to give UCLA a 24-13 advantage. He added a 47-yard kick later in the final quarter.
 
Kyle Ford (transfer USC), J.Michael Sturdivant (transfer Cal), Ryan Cragun (3 games last season), Carson Steele (transfer Ball State) each caught their first passes as Bruins in tonight’s game.
