Postgame Notes
Washington 31, UCLA 19
Nov. 15, 2024
- LB Carson Schwesinger led the Bruins with a career-high 17 tackles. It marked his seventh double-digit tackle performance of the season. He has led UCLA in tackles in eight of 10 games so far this season.
- Schwesinger’s 17 tackles were the most by a Bruin since Jayon Brown in 2016 (19 vs. Colorado on Nov. 3, 2016).
- Schwesinger eclipsed 100 total tackles for the season (109), becoming the first Bruin to accomplish that feat since S Adarius Pickett in 2018 (123) -- and the first UCLA linebacker since Kenny Young in 2017 (110).
- Fr. WR Kwazi Gilmer caught a 1-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, his second TD grab of the year. He becomes one of three UCLA players, and just two wide receivers, with multiple touchdown receptions.
- CB Devin Kirkwood intercepted Washington QB Will Rogers in the third quarter. It was his first pick of the season, and third of his career.
- LB Kain Medrano also intercepted Rogers in the third quarter. It was his second pick of the year, moving him into a three-way tie for the team lead (Bryan Addison, Carson Schwesinger).
- UCLA allowed a season-low 182 passing yards against the Huskies. It was the second straight week the Bruins set a season-best for passing defense (last week, Iowa passed for 185 yards).
- UCLA had multiple defensive takeaways for the third consecutive game, and fourth time overall this season.
- RS-Sr. OL Jaylan Jeffers made his first-career start on Friday.
- RS-Sr. DL Luke Schuermann recorded a solo sack in the second quarter, his first at the FBS level (he made a school-record 34.5 sacks at Johns Hopkins as an undergrad). He later added a tackle for loss on a run play. Combined, they were his first two FBS TFLs.
