Postgame Notes
UCLA vs. Nebraska
Nov. 2, 2024
- UCLA’s game-opening drive ate up 8:00 of clock, the most of any Bruin drive so far this season (previously – 7:56 at Penn State).
- LB Kain Medrano had a 38-yard pick-six on the opening play of the second half. It was his second-career interception and first-career touchdown. It marked UCLA’s second pick-six of the season (Bryan Addison vs. Oregon).
- DT Jay Toia sacked Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola to cap a game-opening defensive three-and-out for the Bruins. It was Toia’s first sack of the season and third of his career.
- QB Ethan Garbers completed 17 of 25 passes for 219 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions. It was his third multi-TD game of the year and eighth of his career. It also marked the first time this year that Garbers had multiple passing scores in consecutive games (he had a career-high 4 at Rutgers on Oct. 19).
- Garbers took off for a 57-yard rushing gain in the second quarter. It was a career-long, eclipsing his 49-yard touchdown run in UCLA’s last game (Oct. 19 at Rutgers). It was also the longest run by a Bruin so far in 2024.
- Garbers’ run was the longest by a Bruin quarterback since Dorian Thompson-Robinson had a 68-yard gain at home against Bowling Green on Sept. 3, 2022.
- Garbers has now thrown for multiple TDs in back-to-back weeks, marking the second time in his career he has accomplished that feat. Garbers' six TDs versus Rutgers and Nebraska are the most of his career in a two-game span.
- Garbers has been extremely efficient in the first quarter in each of the Bruins' last two games versus Rutgers and Nebraska. In those two quarters combined, Garbers is 20 of 23 passing (87.0 percent) for 187 yards and a touchdown.
- WR Kwazi Gilmer paced the Bruins with a career-high 88 receiving yards on three receptions. He also reeled in a touchdown catch, the first of his collegiate career.
- UCLA scored on its first three drives of the game. It was the first time this year that the Bruins scored points on each of their first three offensive drives of a contest, and was the third time overall that UCLA had a three-drive scoring streak in a single game (also accomplished at Hawai’i, vs. Indiana).
- RB Jalen Berger has caught a TD pass in each of UCLA's last two games, the first receiving TDs of his career. Today's game marks the second time in his career he’s had a TD in back-to-back games, as he rushed for a touchdown in each of the last two games of the 2022 season while at Michigan State. Berger is also the only Bruin with a receiving TD in back-to-back games this year, and is one of just two UCLA receivers (Logan Loya, 3) with multiple TD catches in 2024.
- CB Jaylin Davies and DE Cherif Seye teamed up for a sack near the end of the first half. It was the first sack of Davies’s career, and Seye’s first as a Bruin (he had 4.5 sacks last season at Florida A&M).
- DL Devin Aupiu registered his first-career multi-TFL game (2.0 TFLs).
- DB Kaylin Moore's game-ending interception in the fourth quarter marked his first-career INT.
- UCLA's two interceptions versus Nebraska marked its second multi-INT game of the season (last at Hawai'i).
- UCLA registered a season high with 139 rushing yards.
- Eight different Bruin receivers caught a pass on Saturday. Six of those had a reception of 10+ yards.
- With 13 stops, LB Carson Schwesinger led UCLA in tackles for the seventh time in eight games this season. One of his tackles was a 10-yard sack that caused a turnover on downs in the fourth quarter. It was his third sack of the year and fourth of his career.
- It marked the sixth consecutive game with double-digit tackles for Schwesinger. He remains the first Bruin to accomplish that feat since Eric Kendricks in 2014.
- UCLA is averaging nearly 100 yards more of total offense per game since switching to its current O-Line configuration of Prongos-Holstege-Yoon-Carlin-DiGiorgio against Penn State on Oct. 5. The Bruins have averaged 356 yards of total offense (1,424 yards over four games) over that span, compared to a 262 yards/game clip in the team's first four games of 2024.
