Eddie Merrins
- Induction:
- 1996
Under the leadership of Eddie Merrins, the "Little Pro," the UCLA men's golf program developed into one of the best in country, and it was under his direction that some of the brightest PGA stars of the eighties and nineties shined in college. A 1955 graduate of Lousiana State University, Merrins not only coached UCLA to the national championship in 1988 and tutored 11 All-Americas — including NCAA players of the year Corey Pavin and Duffy Waldorf — but in 1981 he also pioneered the "Friends of Golf" organization to support the UCLA golf program and youth golf in southern California.
Merrins, the teaching pro and director of golf at Bel-Air Country Club since 1962, was inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.
