John Wooden

Born in 1910, legendary John Wooden, the most successful coach in the history of college basketball, guided his UCLA teams to an unprecedented 10 national championships in his 27 seasons (1949-1975). Wooden's teams compiled an overall record of 620-147 (a winning percentage of .808) and won 19 conference titles. Under his direction, the Bruins captured a remarkable seven consecutive NCAA titles from 1967-1973.
A three-time All-America selection at Purdue (1932-1934), Wooden was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 1960; 12 years later, he was inducted as coach. He remains the only person inducted as both. Before coaching at UCLA, he coached at Indiana State for two seasons (1947-1948). His book "Practical Modern Basketball" was published in 1979. He still regularly attends UCLA home basketball games, sitting behind the Bruin bench.
Known just as "Coach," Wooden was a charter member of the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984.
