Jose Lopez

Jose Lopez was a four-year soccer letterman who helped the Bruins to three consecutive NCAA tournament finals in the early 1970s. After his graduation, Los Angeles selected him with the top pick in the professional soccer draft in the United States in 1974, and the Aztecs went on to win the North American Soccer League title. In 1975, he was named the Aztecs' midfielder of the year. Lopez coached the Santa Monica High School soccer team for two decades and doubled as baseball coach for three seasons. He also currently serves as a volunteer assistant for the UCLA men's soccer team.
