    1989
Pat Turner was a record-setting track star at UCLA from 1937-1940 whose specialty was the broad jump. As a senior, his jump of 25-6 3/8 was the longest in the world that year. After he completed his eligibility, Turner continued to play an active role in UCLA athletics. He was appointed full-time trainer in September of 1941 and was named head athletic trainer in January of 1942. In September of 1942, Turner resigned to teach in Los Angeles. In 1946, however, he returned to serve as an assistant trainer under Ducky Drake. Together, they covered all UCLA athletic teams and contests. Turner left in 1952 to become an administrator in the Los Angeles city schools.
