No. 19 Women's Tennis Defeats Indiana 4-1
April 17, 2026 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES โ The 19th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team withstood a push by No. 72 Indiana to win 4-1 in Big Ten Conference play Friday afternoon at Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins increased their winning streak to five with just one match remaining in the regular season.
Freshman Kayla Chung secured her first dual singles victory in clinching fashion. Olivia Center and Mayu Crossley also prevailed in singles play for UCLA (14-6, 8-4 Big Ten), which won the doubles point without giving up a game. Nicole Teodosescu of the Hoosiers (14-10, 4-8) recorded a singles win.
The Bruins jumped out to 3-0 leads on all three doubles courts and received little resistance from there, recording 6-0 victories on Courts 2 and 3. Chung/Ahmani Guichard finished first on Court 3, taking down Chase Boyer/Nicole Teodosescu. Crossley/Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer then finished off its sweep of Elisabeth Dunac/Nicole Sifuentes moments later.
Center improved to 4-0 on Court 5 to start singles play, beating Hi'ilani Williams 6-2, 6-3. Center also became the fourth Bruin to reach double-figure dual singles wins, improving to 10-5.
Indiana earned its point on Court 4, where Nicole Teodosescu outlasted Bianca Fernandez 6-3, 7-5. No. 49 Crossley would soon push UCLA's lead back to two, though, dealing Ameia Sorey a 7-5, 6-2 defeat on Court 2. Crossley's personal singles winning streak is now at nine and the Tokyo native leads the Bruins in total (19) and dual (16) singles victories as a freshman.
Crossley and her classmate, Chung, both finished with two-win days. Chung dug herself out of a second-set hole on Court 6, ultimately overcoming Sifuentes 7-6(6), 6-4. Chung posted a 5-2 singles record during tournament play, but had not broken through for a dual victory in three previous contests.
UCLA finishes out its regular season Sunday against Purdue. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m. PT. A Senior Day ceremony honoring Lutkemeyer and three staff members will begin at 11:50 a.m.
