Vic Kelley served UCLA in many ways for more than 40 years. After his days as a golfer for the Bruins (1934-36), Kelley spent nine years in the newspaper business. His return to UCLA as the sports information director (for 36 years, 1945-1981) and also the golf coach (for 27 years, 1948-1975), marked an amazing run as a sports administrator. After retirement, he became sports historian for the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 1962, he headed the organization of the U.S. Track and Field Federation and became its first executive director. Kelley served as an officer of the Golf Coaches Association of America from 1960-1970, and was president in 1969-1970. He was the NCAA Golf Tournament chairman from 1969-1971. He also served as the NCAA's television liaison officer. A member of the Sports Information Director's Hall of Fame, Kelley was also inducted into the Golf Coaches Hall of Fame in 1983.
