SANTA CLARA, Calif. - No. 14 UCLA took a 7-0 loss to the top-ranked and undefeated Santa Clara Broncos Saturday in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Santa Clara advances to the quarterfinals with a record of 22-0, while UCLA ends the season with a 15-5-1 mark.

UCLA played a physical game in the first twenty minutes, and both teams held each other without a shot until Santa Clara's scoring frenzy was ignited by a pair of goals within a 46-second time span by forwards Heather Aldama and Mandy Clemens. The Broncos extended their lead to 3-0 when forward Jaqui Little netted in a goal in the 44th minute.

In the second half of play, Clemens, Aly Wagner, Rachel Weber and Whitney Hollis pitched in a goal apiece for the Broncos.

UCLA goalkeeper CiCi Peterson pulled down a career-high eight saves, while Bronco keepers Crystal Gordon and Alice Gleason did not need to make a single save.

UCLA is now 3-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, while the Broncos, who look to make their fourth consecutive Women's College Cup appearance, are 15-10.

"It didn't go the way we wanted," UCLA head coach Jillian Ellis said. "We went up against a fantastic team. I think we were out-classed. We didn't put away our chances early."

Santa Clara head coach Jerry Smith added, "UCLA and Jillian Ellis should be very proud. It is hard to get into the NCAA Tournament, and even more difficult to win a match. That they accomplished both those things in Ellis' first year is a great achievement. They played us very physical over the first twenty minutes, which threw us off our game."
