LOS ANGELES - Three-time defending national champion UCLA defeated the Aggies of UC Davis, 6-3 in today's nonconference game.
In the first quarter, the Bruins went on a 3-0 run with senior Mandy McAloon (Millersville, MD) scoring two goals and junior Kristin Guerin (Los Alamitos) notching the third. UCLA held the Aggies scoreless in the second quarter, taking a 5-1 lead at the half.
The Aggies outscored the Bruins 2-1 in the second half, with junior Holly Kincaid (San Antonio, TX) and sophomore Kim Parker (Merced) scoring points for the Aggies, but the Bruins recorded the victory.
The Bruins were led in scoring by McAloon, who fired in half on the Bruins' six points. Guerin, Jenny Lamb (Huntington Beach) and Elaine Zivich (Lompoc) each notched a goal. Junior netkeeper Erin Golaboski (Severna Park, MD) recorded six saves.
The Aggies put three points on the scoreboard. Senior Jamie Koett (San Diego), Kincaid and Parker each tallied a goal. Senior goalkeeper Molly Morris tallied seven saves for UC Davis.
Today's meeting was the second between UCLA and UC Davis this season. At the UC San Diego Tournament on February 12, the Bruins recorded a 10-5 victory over the Aggies. UCLA holds a 7-1 all-time record over UC Davis and is currently outscoring opponents 139-88. Today's win increases the Bruins' record to 11-7 overall and they remain at 3-3 in MPSF conference play. The Aggies fall to 17-7.
UCLA will be in action again tomorrow when they host No. 7 UC Santa Barbara (7-8 overall, 1-3 MPSF) for a noon conference game. The game will be held at the Men's Gym Pool.
