LOS ANGELES - Three-time defending national champion UCLA handed the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos an 11-2 defeat in today's MPSF conference matchup.

In the first half, the Bruins scored six goals, two from senior Amanda Gall (Placentia), and held the Gauchos scoreless.

UCLA scored the first three goals in the third quarter to take a 9-0 lead before freshman Jenny Holliday (San Diego) scored UC Santa Barbara's first goal of the match with 3:11 remaining in the third quarter of play. The Gauchos fired in a four-meter penalty shot in the fourth quarter, but UCLA freshman Brianne Barth (Long Beach) answered with a reverse shot less than a minute later.

The Bruins were led in scoring by Gall, junior Serela Kay (Annapolis, MD) and freshman Erin Hayes (Irvine), each with two goals. A total of eight players notched points for the Bruins.

The Gauchos' two goals were from Holliday and Nicole Comacho (Walnut). UCLA junior netkeeper Erin Golaboski (Severna Park, MD) grabbed three saves before yielding the net to sophomore Alison LaBonte (Danville), who tallied one save. UC Santa Barbara freshman netkeeper Katelyn Henry (Santa Barbara) had four saves.

Today's victory increases UCLA's record to 12-7 overall and 4-3 in MPSF conference action. The Bruins are outscoring their 1999 opponents 150-90. UC Santa Barbara falls to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in MPSF play.
