
Long Beach State Sweeps UCLA in Preseason Tournament

The UCLA men's volleyball team was defeated in three games by Long Beach State at a recent preseason tournament at the Long Beach Pyramid.
The 49ers won, 30-24, 30-26, 30-20.
The Bruins played four matches in one day at the tournament, winning one pool play match against UC Irvine and losing two others against UC San Diego and USC.
"We played 17 players in this tournament," said Head Coach Al Scates. "We looked at a lot of (our) players."
In the match against Long Beach State, junior outside hitter Matt Komer spiked 17 kills to lead the Bruins. Senior three-time All-American Adam Naeve added nine kills and five block assists, and sophomore Scott Morrow added four kills and six total blocks.
The 49ers served seven aces to the Bruins two, but UCLA won the war at the net, out-blocking LBS, 14.5-10.
Senior Dave McKienzie led the 49ers with 20 kills, followed by Jim Polster's 15 kills.
