Sept. 24, 2000
The top-ranked UCLA men's soccer team remained undefeated after six games, defeating UC Santa Barbara 2-0 at Frank W. Marshall Field on the UCLA campus. Hermann Trophy nominee McKinley Tennyson Jr. scored his third game-winning goal of the season 19 seconds into the second half.
After a tepid first-half which saw the Bruins held to just two shots, Tennyson quickly turned things around immediately after the second-half whistle. At the 45:19 mark, Tennyson flicked a Tony Lawson (Palmdale, CA) pass into the net past UCSB goalkeeper Erik Stolhandske to take the advantage.
Cliff McKinley (Fountain Valley, CA) added some insurance in the 81st minute, heading in a perfectly placed cross from Ty Maurin (Chino, CA) for his first goal of the season.
Bruin goalkeeper DJ Countess earned his first solo shutout of the season and made one save. Stolhandske had five saves in the loss.
UCLA improves its record to 6-0-0, while UC Santa Barbara falls to 3-5-0. The Bruins next face 1999 NCAA Runner-up Santa Clara on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Santa Clara before returning home to take on Saint Mary's on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2:00 pm.
