Santa Barbara, Calif.-- Dave Parker scored three goals, Adam Wright and Albert Garcia added two goals each and goalkeeper Brandon Brooks limited UC Santa Barbara to one goal through three periods to lead the second ranked UCLA Bruins to an 11-3 water polo victory over the 10th ranked Gauchos on Friday.
The Bruins performance overcame an outstanding effort by UCSB's junior goalkeeper Trevor Spence. In his three periods of work, Spence produced a season-high 12 saves.
UCLA led 6-0 before Kyle Ashley scored near the end of the first half to narrow the margin to 6-1 at intermission. The Bruins, however, outscored UCSB 4-0 in the third quarter to take an insurmountable 10-1 lead through three periods.
In addition to the goal by Ashley, Paul Rave and Patrick Treman tallied goals for the Gauchos, both coming in the fourth quarter.
With the victory, UCLA improves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. UCSB is now 3-7 overall and 1-3 in league play.
