Stanford, Calif. - The Bruin men's soccer team remained a riddle for third-ranked Stanford, battling to a 0-0 tie after 120 minutes of play Friday evening at Maloney Field to take the season series, 1-0-1. The draw is the first of the season for the Cardinal, who are now 13-1-1 on the year and 3-1-1 in the Pac-10. Its only two blemishes have come at the hands of the Bruins. UCLA moves to 7-6-4, 2-2-1 in the conference.
The tightly-contested first half, which featured more combined fouls (19) than shots (7), would be a prelude to the second 45 minutes. Each team continued to press in the second half, with the Cardinal outshooting the Bruins, 7-2.
The overtime periods included several more scoring chances for both teams, including a flurry of shots by the Cardinal in the final minute of both periods that were either blocked or hit the goalpost. Stanford had five corner kicks in the second overtime period but were unable to convert against the Bruin defense.
UCLA goalkeeper Zach Wells notched three saves in earning his second consecutive shutout and sixth overall this year. Stanford netminder Andrew Terris had one save.
