The second-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated cross-town rival USC in four games Wednesday night in Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins (6-3, 2-1) won 27-30, 30-24, 30-26, 30-19 in one hour and 45 minutes before 1,533 spectators. The victory was UCLA's 14th in the last 15 matches against USC.
The Bruins avenged last year's five-game loss to the Trojans by hitting .350 in the final two games and out-blocking their opponent 15-7 for the match.
Junior Ian Burnham led UCLA with a career high of 18 kills and added two aces and five digs. Senior Adam Naeve led the Bruins with nine block assists, followed by sophomore setter Rich Nelson's eight. Junior Matt Komer spiked 15 kills (.357) with four digs and two block assists.
Senior Eli Fairfield led the Trojans (3-3, 3-3) with 16 kills, followed by junior Brook Billings, who recorded 13. Billings, however, committed 15 hitting errors and was held to a negative attack percentage.
The loss was the third straight setback for the eighth-ranked Trojans.
