LOS ANGELES - The UCLA men's volleyball team improved its record to 15-5 on the 2001 season with a 30-28, 30-21, 30-18 victory over Concordia (NY) on Monday night at Pauley Pavilion. With the loss, the Clippers fall to 15-4 on the season.
The first game was very close, as neither team had more than a three-point lead at any time. The Clippers held the advantage late in the game with a 20-17 lead. From that point, there would be seven more ties before two straight kills by Mark Williams put the game away for UCLA.
The Bruins kept the momentum in game two, pulling away after the 12-12 mark and extending a 19-15 lead and eventually winning the game by a 30-21 margin. After playing just seven players in the first two games of the match, UCLA made use of four additional players in game three. Setter Rich Nelson spread his 31 assists and the team's 44 kills between eight players, while Adam Naeve led the Bruins with seven block assists.
UCLA returns to action this Wednesday, with a 7 pm match against Rutgers (Newark) in Pauley Pavilion.
