
#1 Bruin Women's Water Polo Opens Season with Victory over Irvine

In the opening game of the season, UCLA defeated UC Irvine 16-4. The leading scorer for the Bruins was junior Robin Beuregard, who ended the day with four goals on four attempts. Sophomore Natalie Golda tallied a hat trick in the game. And, Junior Devon McIntyre scored a pair of goals. Junior goalie Christel Smith led the Bruins in saves with a total of three. Jaime Hipp also had a save for the Bruins. For Irvine, Erica Horman was the leading scorer with three goals and Melissa Fernandez also scored a goal. Goalie Sun Chamblee ended the day with nine saves.
Also scoring a goal for the Bruins were Kelly Heuchan, Mari Joyce, Kristyn Pulver, Eleanor Murphy, Jody Schmidt and true freshmen Amber Stachowski and Nicollette Grams.
This weekend, February 9-10, the Bruins will compete at the Stanford Invitational. On Saturday, UCLA will face Massachusetts at 9:00 AM and Cal at 3:30 PM. Sunday, the Bruins will face San Jose State at 9:00 AM and the championship game will be held at 5:00 PM.
