McLachlin Places Among Top 20 at NCAA Men's Golf

The UCLA men's golf team is in 13th place after the first round of the NCAA West Regionals at the Championship Course, hosted by the University of New Mexico.

The Bruins posted a team score of 296, eight-over par, and trail first place Texas by 11 shots. The Longhorns posted a team score of 285, three-under par. San Diego State is in second place at 289, followed by Fresno State, Minnesota and UNLV, which are tied for third at 290.

Individually for the Bruins, senior Parker McLachlin and freshman John Poucher are tied for 27th place at 73. Sophomore John Merrick and Roy Moon are tied for 57th at 75 and freshman Breene Murphy is tied for 117th at 79.

Jason Hartwick of Texas is the leader in the clubhouse after posting a four-under par 68. Three players are tied for third at 69, three-under par.

Second round action continues Friday.
