The UCLA men's volleyball team defeated team Canada 3-0 in its only exhibition home match of the season Friday night.

The Bruins won 30-25, 30-22, 30-21 in 81 minutes before 511 fans. The Bruins improved their pre-season record to 4-1.

Senior Chris Pena was voted UCLA's MVP of the match after leading the hosts with nine kills (.432), two aces and three block assists. Redshirt sophomore Nick Scheftic also spiked nine kills (.563).

The Bruins aced Canada 15 times, led by four from Damien Scott and two from J.T. Wenger, Steve Klosterman and Kris Kraushaar. Setters Dennis Gonzalez and Beau Peters directed an offense that hit .346, including .455 in Game 2 and .342 in Game 3.

Simon Berleur, who was voted Canada's MVP of the match, led his team with 12 kills (.476) followed by Brian Pahl, who added nine.

The Bruins open their 2004 home schedule against the University of La Verne on Wed., Jan. 14 in Pauley Pavilion.
