Berkeley, Calif. - Senior Mike Enfield scored two goals and assisted on the other as No. 19 UCLA upset No. 13 California, 3-0. The win improves the Bruins' record to 6-2-2, 2-1-0 in the Pac-10, while the Bears' record drops to 8-2-2, 1-2-1 in the Pac-10.
In a scoreless first-half, both teams produced goal-scoring opportunties. Cal's best chance of the game came in the 12th minute when senior forward Carl Acosta broke away from the Bruin defense. UCLA sophomore goalkeeper Eric Reed was up to the challenge, however, deflecting Acosta's 20-yard shot.
Enfield opened scoring for the Bruins just after halftime, heading in a cross from junior defender Jordan Harvey.
The Bruins added to their lead with two goals late in the game. The second goal came from junior midfielder Ramon Manak, who scored his first goal as a Bruin, slotting home a ball in the 6-yard box to put UCLA up 2-0. Enfield had the assist on the play.
Enfield sealed the victory with his second goal of the game and seventh of the season at the 83:02 mark. After being dragged down by Cal keeper Eric Kronberg, who was shown a red-card on the play, Enfield scored on a rebound from his own penalty kick, which junior keeper Mike Oseguera had initially blocked.
The Bruins finished the game with 14 shots to Cal's four. Kronberg came up with four saves for Cal, while Oseguera chipped in one. UCLA keeper Reed had two. Cal commited 15 fouls to UCLA's 14.
UCLA will next face Stanford in Palo Alto on Sunday, Oct.17 at Noon.
