Top-Seeded Bruins Splash Past UCSB, 6-1

STANFORD, Calif. - UCLA senior attacker Brett Ormsby led all scorers with two goals as the top-ranked and No. 1 seeded Bruin water polo team defeated UC Santa Barbara 6-1 on Friday night at the Avery Aquatics Complex in the first round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament.

UCLA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period and eventually extended its lead to 5-0 at halftime. The Gauchos netted their only goal of the game at 3:35 in the third period.

The Bruins received goals from Ormsby (2), Peter Belden, Albert Garcia, Logan Powell and Michael March.

With the victory, UCLA extended its longest winning streak since 1990 to 17 matches. With two more wins, the Bruins will tie the 1989-1990 teams for the fourth longest streak in school history at 19.

UCLA will face fifth-seeded UC Irvine in the semifinals of the MPSF tournament tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. at the Avery Aquatics Center. In 2004, UCLA is 3-0 against the Anteaters and has defeated UCI by scores of 6-4 (9/25), 10-9 (10/2) and 7-6 (11/14).
