No. 1 Bruins open 2004 season with victory against No. 9 Hawaii

Stanford, CA - The No. 1 ranked UCLA Women's Water Polo team opened its defense of its 2003 NCAA Title with a 6-2 victory over No. 9 Hawaii at the Stanford Invitational. The Bruins who are the number one seed in the tournament fell behind 0-1 in the first period before tying the game 2-2 at the end of the first half. In the second half it would be all UCLA as the Bruins would hold the Rainbow Wahine scoreless while tallying four goals to earn the 6-2 win.
Freshman Molly Cahill led all Bruin scorers with three goals in her first collegiate game. Sophomores Katherine Belden, Paloma Slezak and Kristina Kunkel each scored once. Freshman goalkeeper Emily Feher finished with seven saves.
