
Fourth-Seeded UCLA Blanks Oral Roberts, 4-0

LOS ANGELES - The fourth-seeded UCLA men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday, cruising to a 4-0 decision over Oral Roberts in an NCAA First Round match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA (19-5) will next face Pepperdine (19-8) in the regional final on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The winner of that match will advance to next week's 16-team NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
The Bruins began the day by winning the doubles point without too much trouble after dropping just one game in a pair of victories on court Nos. 2 and 3.
In singles play, Bruin freshman Philipp Gruendler was the first to finish, posting a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Patrick Guilliod at the No. 6 position. Next to finish was court No. 3, where junior Chris Lam was nearly perfect against Wessel Kemp, winning 6-0, 6-1.
The match was clinched at the No. 2 position, where junior Luben Pampoulov dispatched of Chris Moore, 6-0, 6-1.
Sunday's showdown between UCLA and Pepperdine will be the first this season, as the teams did not face off during the regular season. The Bruins lead the all-time series, 37-13.
