Columbus, Ohio - UCLA's Benjamin Kohlloeffel became the first UCLA player in history to capture the singles title at the ITA National Indoor Championships on Sunday, posting a straight-set victory over Duke's Ludovic Walter.
Kohlloeffel, a junior from Herne, Germany, was seeded fourth in the tournament. He downed the unseeded Walter, 7-5, 6-1, wrapping up an impressive four days in which he lost only one set in five matches. His finals victory came a day after he upset second-seeded John Isner of Georgia in the semifinals.
Not only is Kohlloeffel the first Bruin player to ever capture the title, he is also UCLA's first finalist in the 28-year history of the tournament.
Kohlloeffel was the 2005 ITA National Rookie of the Year.
