
Bruins Sweep Scarlet Raiders to Record 19th Win

Second-ranked UCLA defeated unranked Rutgers-Newark Wednesday night in Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins won 30-16, 30-12, 30-20 in 70 minutes before 330 fans. The victory raised UCLA's record to 19-3 overall. Rutgers-Newark fell to 8-7.
Fifteen UCLA players suited and all of them played against the Scarlet Raiders. Junior Damien Scott led the Bruins with eight kills (.400), one ace, eight block assists and 13.0 points, a career high. Senior Allan Vince added five kills (.714) and six points and teammate Paul Johnson contributed four kills (.517) and 10 total blocks. Gaby Acevedo started at setter and recorded 21 assists, two kills (.667), two block assists and five points. Redshirt freshman libero Eric Chaghouri added a career-high of 10 digs.
Brian Honsberger led the Scarlet Raiders with nine kills (.333).
UCLA dominated every offensive category, out-blocking Rutgers-Newark 16.5-3.5 and hitting .358. The Bruins also limited the Scarlet Raiders to a hitting percentage of -.041, a school record for poorest hitting percentage by an opponent. The Bruins served seven aces to their opponent's none and compiled 38 kills to Rutgers' 26.
UCLA hosts No.15 George Mason Thurs., Mar. 17 at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion before breaking for Winter Quarter Final Exams.
