Anjelica Selden Named UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete Of The Week

At the Bulldog Classic, Selden pitched no-hitters against both St. John's and No. 18/24 Fresno State and also recorded a 23-strikeout game vs. Ole Miss to set a new Pac-10 record for strikeouts in a single game. In the tournament, she struck out 70 of 120 batters while allowing just one walk and one earned run. For the week, she posted a 0.20 ERA and allowed opponents to bat just 0.70 in five appearances. She was UCLA's representative on the Bulldog Classic All-Tournament team.
Selden's 23-strikeout performance against Ole Miss is the second highest single-game total in UCLA softball history behind three 25K performances from Debbie Doom in 1982 (twice, both in 0-0 ties of 17 and 18 innings) and 1984 (a 0-1, 11-inning loss to Long Beach State). It is the highest strikeout total in UCLA history with the pitching distance at 43 feet and the 11th-best single-game strikeout performance in NCAA Division I history (begins in 1982). Her first no-hitter against St. John's was the 91st no-hitter in UCLA softball history, and the only baserunner in the game reached on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. The only baserunner in the Fresno State game reached on an E6 with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Selden struck out the side in the second, fifth and sixth innings and struck out seven consecutive batters beginning with the leadoff batter in the fifth inning. Six of Fresno State's nine hitters struck out in every plate appearance.
This is Selden's first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
