
UCLA Sweeps UC Santa Cruz

The fifth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated visiting fourth-ranked Div. III UC Santa Cruz Friday night in a non-league contest for both teams.
The Bruins won 30-19, 30-19, 30-20 in 69 minutes in front of 498 fans in Pauley Pavilion. The victory raised the Bruins' record to 6-5 overall. The Banana Slugs fell to 5-3.
Juniors Steve Klosterman and Paul George combined for 27 kills to spark the Bruins. George pounded a match-high 14 kills (.600) and Klosterman added 13 (.632). Freshman Ian Jackson, making his first start, recorded 11 kills (.381), an ace and two block assists and senior Nick Scheftic contributed 10 kills (.833) and three total blocks. Freshman Matt Wade made his first start of the season at setter and recorded 46 assists, one kill, two digs and one block assist.
The Bruins held the Slugs to hitting percentage of .140 largely on a 10.5-1.0 blocking advantage. UCLA served four aces, made just 11 service errors and hit .552 for the match.
UCLA remains home for the next two weeks, hosting four matches in Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins host UC Santa Barbara on Wed., Feb. 8 and Cal State Northridge on Fri., Feb. 10. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
