
UCLA Sweeps UC Santa Barbara

The seventh-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated visiting 10th-ranked UC Santa Barbara Wednesday night in an MPSF contest for both teams.
The Bruins won 30-22, 30-21, 30-26 in 82 minutes in front of 380 fans in Pauley Pavilion. The victory raised the Bruins' record to 7-5 overall, 2-3 in league play. The Gauchos fell to 5-6, 4-5.
Junior Paul George led the Bruins with nine kills, followed by seven apiece from Steve Klosterman, David Russell and freshman Ian Jackson, who started his second straight match. Russell and Klosterman each hit .538. Freshman Matt Wade started his second straight match and recorded 33 set assists and four kills (1.000). Sophomore Tony Ker recorded a match-high 14 digs.
The Bruins were outstanding at the net Wednesday, recording 11.5 total blocks to the Gauchos' six. UCLA's aggressive play up front limited UCSB to a hitting percentage of .051. The Bruins hit .330.
For the fourth straight match, the Gauchos were without All-American Evan Patak, among the national leaders in aces, kills and points. On Wednesday, Jared Godinez led UCSB with nine kills, but hit just .227.
UCLA remains at home for three more matches, hosting Cal State Northridge on Fri., Feb. 10, followed by contests against Stanford (Feb. 16) and Pacific (Feb. 17). All matches begin at 7 p.m.
